We’ve been selected (and inspected) by these leading UK Travel Guides…
We’ve been listed in Alastair Sawdays ‘B&B bible’ every year since 2004, when we were originally recommended for inclusion by one of our guests.
Sawdays love ‘all things local and independent’, they seek out ‘quirkiness and creativity’, they reject ‘the bland, the corporate and the impersonal’, and they select ‘only the most special places and owners’. So we are honoured and delighted they have included us!
You can read more about Sawdays’ ethical approach to independant travel, and what they’ve said about us, at www.sawdays.co.uk.
We’re also pleased to be included in the Rough Guide, which features ‘comprehensive reviews of the finest places to stay …based on personal inspection by a long-time Lakes expert’. You can buy a paperback or an ebook version of this excellent guide at www.roughguides.com.
Christian Dymond has recently published his comprehensive and very beautiful compendium of just about everything you’ll ever need to know about the Lakes. We’d highly recommend it, even if we weren’t in it. You can buy a copy (but quickly, before the first print run is sold out) from dymondguides.com.
On most pages of our website we’ve included a few quotations, taken from the comments that guests have written in our guest books.
These books enable our guests to share their recommendations with each other – for places they’ve been to, cafés and restaurants they’ve enjoyed, and walks they’ve discovered. After over 10 years, both books are well thumbed, and full of practical tips and helpful feedback.
Our favourite things — the driving rain, infinite greens, beautiful sunshine, out-of-this-world views, yogurt & honey, huge and tasty dinner at the Queen’s Head, cups of tea, coming back after a long walk, cosy bed, little frog, friendly cat, and breakfast outside.
